Dhoom 3: A Review

Dhoom 3 is the third installment of the popular Dhoom franchise, which follows the adventures of Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan), a cop, and Ali Akbar (Uday Chopra), his sidekick, as they chase after various thieves and criminals. In this film, they face their most formidable foe yet: Sahir Khan (Aamir Khan), a circus performer who robs banks in Chicago to avenge his father's death.

The film is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, who also wrote the screenplay and the story. Plot Summary

The film begins in 1990, when Iqbal Khan (Jackie Shroff) runs The Great Indian Circus in Chicago, which is in debt to the Western Bank of Chicago. When he fails to repay the loan, the bank's chairman Anderson (Andrew Bicknell) orders to shut down the circus and seize its assets. Iqbal pleads for mercy, but Anderson coldly rejects him. Iqbal then shoots himself in front of his young son Sahir (Siddharth Nigam), who vows to take revenge on Anderson.

Twenty-three years later, Sahir (Aamir Khan) has grown up to be a skilled circus performer and a master thief. He robs various branches of the Western Bank of Chicago using his acrobatic skills and a modified motorcycle. He also leaves behind a Hindi message and a clown mask as his signature. The Chicago police are unable to catch him and seek help from Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and Ali Akbar (Uday Chopra), who are famous for solving cases involving unusual thieves.

Jai and Ali arrive in Chicago and join forces with Detective Victoria (Tabrett Bethell). They set a trap for Sahir by leaking information about his next target. However, Sahir outsmarts them and escapes with the money. Jai manages to shoot him on his left shoulder during the chase. Sahir then returns to his circus and resumes his show with Aaliya Hussain (Katrina Kaif), a new acrobat whom he has hired.

Jai suspects that Sahir has an accomplice who helps him in his robberies. He infiltrates the circus as an audience member and spots Sahir's wound. He confronts him backstage and reveals his identity as a cop. He also tells him that he has planted a transmitter on his bike and can track his every move. Sahir then reveals that he has been playing a double role: he has a twin brother named Samar (also Aamir Khan), who is autistic and helps him in his heists.

Sahir explains that he uses Samar as his scapegoat while he himself acts as an informant for Jai. He also says that he wants to destroy Anderson and his bank for ruining his father's life. He asks Jai to let him complete his mission or else he will kill Samar. Jai refuses to cooperate and tries to arrest Sahir, but Samar intervenes and fights with Jai. Sahir and Samar escape from the circus with Aaliya's help.

Jai tracks down Sahir and Samar to an abandoned warehouse where they have stored their loot. He engages in a shootout with them but fails to capture them. He then realizes that Sahir has planned to rob the main branch of the Western Bank of Chicago on Christmas Eve, when Anderson will be present. He informs Ali and Victoria and they prepare to stop the robbery.

On the day of the heist, Sahir and Samar enter the bank disguised as Santa Claus. They take Anderson hostage and demand him to transfer all the money in the bank to their account. They also rig the bank with explosives and threaten to blow it up if anyone tries to stop them. Jai, Ali and Victoria arrive at the scene and try to negotiate with Sahir. Jai tells Sahir that he understands his pain and asks him to surrender peacefully. He also tells him that he has found out that Anderson was not responsible for his father's death, but it was his own partner who betrayed him and sold the circus to Anderson.

Sahir is shocked by this revelation and feels guilty for his actions. He decides to abort the robbery and surrender to Jai. However, Samar refuses to give up and shoots at Jai. Sahir tries to stop him but gets shot in the process. Samar then triggers the explosives and blows up the bank, killing himself and Anderson. Sahir dies in Jai's arms, asking for forgiveness.

Jai returns to India with a heavy heart. He visits Sahir and Samar's grave and pays his respects. He also meets Aaliya, who has joined a new circus in India. He tells her that he is proud of Sahir for choosing the right path in the end. He then leaves with Ali, while Aaliya performs in the circus.

The film's main weakness is its script, which is full of loopholes, inconsistencies and implausibilities. The film's plot is predictable and lacks originality, borrowing elements from various Hollywood films such as The Prestige, The Dark Knight and The Italian Job. The film's logic is also flawed, as it relies on too many coincidences, conveniences and contrivances to move the story forward. The film's length is also an issue, as it drags on for almost three hours without much substance or depth.
